Opelika woman's car stolen twice in one day

OPELIKA, AL - An Opelika woman had her car stolen twice in one day by the same person, ending in a short car chase with police.

The victim reported that she parked her white 2001 Dodge Durango on South Railroad Ave. on Jan. 4 around 5 p.m.

She left the SUV unlocked with the keys in the center console.

When she came back a little while later the vehicle was gone.

Police say the victim had a .30-.30 Winchester rifle, a book bag containing an orange vest, camo rain jacket, a Primos Grunt Call, and a pair of Game Winner Camo coveralls in the vehicle. There was also a Vera Bradley wallet with about $11 and some personal identification.

The vehicle was found a little while later in downtown Opelika. The only property recovered was the wallet.

The victim came to get her vehicle but had to go home to get another key.

While the vehicle was parked waiting for her to get back, it was stolen again by the same suspect.

Officers found the SUV on the road and chased the suspect in the area of Torbert Blvd. and Geneva St.

The suspect jumped out of the vehicle and ran away on foot. Officers were unable to find him.

The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 5’9” tall and weighing about 160 pounds. He was wearing a green t-shirt, blue jeans, and a black bandana.

The case is under investigation.
