Opelika woman tries to cash fake check for $7k | Crime

OPELIKA, AL - A woman tried to cash a fake check for over $7,000 in Opelika on Wednesday, but ended up in police custody instead.

Police say a bank employee was helping a woman try to cash a check for the amount of $7,100 at the Wells Fargo on South Sixth St. around 3 p.m. on Nov. 14.

During the transaction the woman fled the bank, leaving without any cash or the check.

Bank personnel called the police, who stopped the woman just a short distance from the bank.

She was taken to the police department for questioning. No arrests have been made so far.

The case remains under investigation.
