Suspect arrested after early morning murder | Crime
OPELIKA, AL - Opelika Police Department was on a routine patrol when they heard gun shots that led to a man's death over the weekend.
The officer was in the 100 block of Chester Ave. on Sept. 30 around 3 a.m when the shots were fired.
He responded to the area and found a black male, later identified as David Lewis Lyles, age 39, shot in the upper torso.
Paramedics and an ambulance were called to the scene.
The victim was transported to the East Alabama Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 3:32 a.m.
Investigation revealed the victim and two other male subjects got into an argument in the roadway. During the argument one of the males pulled out a handgun and shot Lyles. Both of the male suspects fled the scene in unknown vehicles and left in an unknown direction.
Labrande Marquese Hughley, age 30 of Opelika, was later arrested at the Opelika Police Department later that day around 6:30 p.m. and charged with murder.
There is a second suspect who is wanted for questioning in connection with this incident.
The case remains under investigation by the Opelika Police Department Investigative Services Division.
